14 traders fined for violating SI number 10

MarketThe Lusaka Fast Track Court has convicted and fined fourteen (14) offenders for violating various regulations of the amended Statutory Instrument (SI) number 10 of 2018 of the Local Government Act Cap 288.

The fourteen, who appeared before magistrate Austin Mubita, were convicted and fined K300 each for street vending and illegal car washing, respectively.

Of those convicted and fined, 12 were found guilty of violating regulation number 9 (b) of SI number 10 of 2018 which restricts people from selling of local produce in any street or public places other than a market established by the council, except with permission from the council in relation to food and any other item or produce, while two were convicted and fined for washing of vehicles in the street or undesignated places

In the other case, Patrick Mwansa and Crispine Mutale were convicted and fined K300 each for abrogating regulation 26 of SI number 10 of 2018 which restricts people from washing of vehicles in the street or undesignated places.

Failure to pay the fine, the convicts risk going to prison for a period not less than three weeks.

And Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Brenda Katongola says the council will continue with its operations, together with other law enforcement agencies, to maintain law and order in the city.
