Former Transport and Communications Minister William Harrington says the government should cancel the Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 10 of 2018 saying it is ill-timed.

Mr. Harrington tells QTV that he supports the stance taken by the Zambia Chambers of Mines who have called on government to scrap off this SI saying it will do more harm to Zambia’s economy than good.

Mr. Harrington states that the Zambia Railways Limited lacks the capacity and efficiency to manage the movement of heavy cargo on rail and deliver it on time without affecting business.

He recalls that when he was in office, he got a report done by the Swedish Railways that clearly stated that Zambia’s railway lines are a danger not only to lives but also goods and services.
