Vice President Inonge Wina has called on traditional leaders to take a leading role in resolving chiefdom succession disputes instead of rushing to courts.

Responding to calls by some headmen of rufunsa in chief bundabunda’s area, who wanted government to help them chose a successor to their chief patrick chakashi who died four years ago.

Speaking on behalf of the headmen who met with the vice president, kenneth chipungu junior explained that the chiefdom has had no chief for 4 -years following numerous succession wrangles which have ended up in court.

In response, mrs. Wina said any succession wrangles can easily be resolved by village headman, only if they engage with one another in an event of the death of a chief because they understand cultural and traditional laws better than anyone else.

And mrs. Wina said it is government’s desire to see unity in all communities regardless of political differences.

She says refunsa district remains a shining example that embraces unity with politicians elected working together despite coming from different political parties.

And chiefs and traditional affairs minister lawrence sichalwe who accompanied the vice president explained that article 165 of the amended constitution precludes government from interfering with traditional matters.
