Some political parties have opposed plans by the Patriotic Front to move a motion in parliament limiting the number of attempts a presidential candidate make at the presidency.

UPPZ President Charles Chanda says this should be left to the respective political parties to decide how many times a candidate can stand.

Mr. Chanda tells Q-News that such a law would be undemocratic and aimed at certain individuals.

He says this is a wrong move which people should not support.

Speaking in a separate interview, PAC President Andyford Banda says there are important bills that the nation has been calling on government to enact were the energy should be channeled instead of coming up with a motion targeted at certain individuals.

And PeP Leader Sean Tembo says the ruling party should not proceed with such an unproductive motion.

Meanwhile, Center for Young Leaders in Africa (CYLA) Legal Affairs Director Best Hamuletwa says the rationale for this motion should be to discourage contenders whose agenda is rejected on a number times to avoid the temptation of changing positions in every election for the sake of obtaining votes.
