Chipata Police have arrested a 33 year old man for allegedly murdering his wife and his two years old son.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has identified the suspect as Godfrey Chomba aged 33 of Shamputa Village, Chief Mwinuna of Mpongwe District who was on the run and the victims as Isabel Mbewe aged 17 years and her son Isaac Chomba.
Ms Katongo says a stick and a brick are alleged to have been used in the act.
She explains that the incident happened on 28th January, 2018 at about 06:00 hours near Masaiti Farm in Masaiti District.
Ms Katongo has disclosed that on the material day, the couple was coming from Masaiti Farm where they were doing some piece of work and along the way, the suspect begun accusing his wife of having an extra marital affair with his friend and in the process a fight ensued.
She states that Isabel Mbewe sustained head injuries, bruises on the back and a cut on her right hand while her son sustained a fractured skull which forced the eye to come out of the socket.
Ms Katongo says the suspect who was on the run was apprehended by Police officers yesterday 4th February, 2018 at about 22:00 hours from Shansongo village, Chief Nkomeshya of Chongwe District where he was hiding.
The Police Spokesperson says Mr. Mbewe has been charged with two counts of murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and will appear in Court soon.
