Introduction of breathalyzers in schools not a priority- SESTUZ

wamuyuwaGovernment has been urged to conduct a research on the levels of drunkenness among teachers while at school before introducing breathalyzer.

Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) General Secretary Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa says this is because introducing breathalyzers in schools for teachers can be a costly undertaking.

Mr. Wamuyuwa tells Q-news that each breathalyzer costs between K2, 000 and K3, 000 meaning that it will cost the treasury over K24 million to cater for all the over 800 schools in the country.

He says this money can be used to settle dues owed to teachers in allowances and other costs.

Mr. Wamuyuwa says procuring breathalyzers is not a priority given the many challenges the teaching fraternity is facing.
