The ministry of health says it has made significant progress in eradicating the cholera outbreak through the multi sectorial response.

Speaking when he toured the Soweto BH market and inspected the burying of shallow wells in Kanyama, ministry of health permanent secretary for administration Dr Kennedy malama says there has been a lot of corporation from members of the community especially in regards to the burying of shallow wells.

Dr Malama says the burying of shallow wells in Kanyama and other epicenter cholera areas is on course.

He explains that according to samples collected from over 1, 000 shallow wells in various areas which are cholera epicenter areas it was discovered that over 700 were contaminated and some with vibrio cholera.

He has stated that the ministry working in partnership with other sectors is commitment to ensuring the outbreak is contained further calling on the residents to be supportive especially in the exercise of burying of shallow wells.

Meanwhile Dr Malama says the ministry is committed to ensuring that the construction of the Soweto BH market which will have 20 waterborne toilets and showers is completed expeditiously.

He has assured that the market will enable traders to trade in a healthy and conducive environment will be completed and handed to the traders within the stipulated period.
