Lusaka Mayor Wilson Kalumba has observed that corruption has contributed to inequalities in the country.

Speaking when he officiated at the launch of the Fighting Inequality Week 2018 organized by the Civil Society Poverty Observatory Group, Mr Kalumba says there is need to address the issue of corruption in order to promote equal wealth distribution.

He has emphasized the need for equal distribution of wealth among citizens in order to reduce inequalities in the country.

Mr Kalumba says it is worrying that Zambia is ranked high among the corrupt nations, noting that this somehow contributes to unequal distribution of wealth.

Speaking at the same event, Civil Society Poverty Observatory Group Chairperson Chenai Mukumba says there is need to put in more effort in ending inequalities in the country.

Ms Mukumba, who is also Consumer Unit Trust Society (CUTS) International Zambia Center Coordinator, says it is for this reason that the group wants to provide a high level of policy analysis as well as engaging policy makers on inequality matters.

The Fighting Inequality Week is being held from 19th – 26th January with the Theme: Take Action to End the Age of Greed!
