Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has announced that public schools around the country whose reopening date was deferred following the outbreak of cholera will reopen on 23rd January 2018.

Meanwhile 87 new cases have been recorded in Lusaka as of Saturday 13th January 2018, most of which have however been treated and discharged and a cumulative number of 3,148 cases with 72 deaths have been recorded countrywide.

Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka, Dr Chilufya announced that the moving of the review date for the re-opening of schools from 30th January to 23rd January comes in the wake of the toning down in the risk levels of the cholera outbreak which has been recorded in the recent days.

Dr. Chilufya has further announced that international schools that meet the criteria’s of the health inspectors that will inspect the sanitary and health conditions of the schools will be allowed to reopen next week.

He has announced that the Minister of Education will this Sunday January 14th, 2018 make a comprehensive statement on other variables that will involve the reopening of the schools o the said date.

And Dr Chilufya has announced that the ministry has received all the  2 million doses of the vaccines and close to 60 percent of the targeted people have so far been vaccinated.

Speaking during the same briefing Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has announced that several markets including the new Soweto market will this Sunday January 14, 2018 be opened for operations following successful cleanups and inspections.
