Curfew in Kanyama over Cholera, while 90 news cases have been recorded

Government has imposed a curfew in kanyama after it has recorded the highest cases of cholera.

Health minister dr. Chitalu chilufya has told a media briefing dr. Chilufya notes that most of the cases reported are from kanyama compound, and this has been due to strange activities happening in the area as well as non-compliance to the preventive measures which government has put in place.

And dr. Chilufya says the ministry has recorded 90 new cholera cases and 3 deaths in lusaka.

He says 35 of the new cases are children while 55 are adults.

The minister has further disclosed that 3 deaths reported are from chelstone, kanyama compound, and chipata.

He says it is important that government restricts trade and movements in kanyama by enforcing a curfew using security wings.

Dr. Chilufya says the curfew starts from 18 hours today to 6 hours the following morning, for the next 7 days to curb factors that are fueling the spread of the epidemic.

Meanwhile water development and environmental protection lloyd kaziya has indicated that government through his ministry will continue supplying fresh water to the affected areas, with the help of the lusaka water and sewerage company.

Mr. Kaziya has also dispelled assertions by some sections of the public that water utility has been supplying unsafe drinking water to the public.

He has since advised members of the public to access water from the tanks which have been supplied in the compounds through the water utility, and avoid using shallow wells.
