FAO urges govt to work on policies to help boost agricultural sector

FAOThe food and agriculture organization (FAO) has observed the need for the ministry of agriculture to work on policies that will help boost agricultural sector and address some of the challenges faced in the sector.

FAO Country Representative George Okechi told q-news in an interview that there are a number of policies that have been launched in the agriculture sector which are not being implemented in order to help boost the sector and also help in the promotion of trade.

Mr. Okechi has stated that despite the important role that trade plays, the development and implementation of coherent, appropriate policies and strategies to realize the full benefits of trade have not been achieved.

He has expressed concern that despite FAO helping the ministry of agriculture to revise a lot of policies aimed at addressing challenges in the sector and boosting the sector, most of the policies are not being implemented by government

He is therefore hopeful that the 7th national development plan will be fully implemented to help address the challenges in the agriculture sector.
