The opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) has appealed to the government not temper with people’s civil and political rights in the coming year.

UNIP Deputy Secretary General Reverend Alfred Banda says 2017 has seen rampant infringement of political and civil rights

He says it is possible for the government to respect the people’s rights by simply embracing divergent views.

Reverend Banda says the failure by ruling party to tolerate divergent views is what has led to them seeing the opposition as their number one enemy.
