Higher Education Minister Nkandu Luo has threatened to ban political activities at public universities.

Professor Luo has told Parliament that he will not hesitate to ban political party branches in universities if some political parties continue inciting students.

She has blamed the protest by students at the Copperbelt University to misinformation by the students’ union leadership over the payment of the meal allowances.

Professor Luo says the COBUSU leadership had placed a notice informing the students that government had no money to pay meal allowances.

She says to the contrary, students were being paid their meal allowances when the riot occurred.

And Professor Luo says no student died from the police beatings during the students protest.

She says two students who were injured during the protest were admitted to Kitwe Teaching Hospital and were later discharged.

Professor Luo says she has since engaged her home affairs counterpart Stephen Kampyongo over the manner the Police handled the students protest.
