Finnish Ambassador to Zambia Timo Olkkonen

Finnish Ambassador to Zambia Timo Olkkonen has called on government to uphold fiscal discipline.

Mr. Olkkonen is concerned that Zambia has incurred more debts which could land the country in problems.

He notes that while government is addressing the issue of debt, there is need to come up with stringent measures to ensure fiscal discipline.

Meanwhile Mr. Olkkonen is happy that the Zambian economy is improving owing to the high copper prices on the international market.

He has tells Q-News that the country’s future mining prospects look good, calling for more investment in the sector.

Mr. Olkkonen says the performance of Zambian economy will improve due to improved copper prices.

However, Ambassador Olkkonen has implored the Zambian people to build a resilient economy by diversification into agriculture.

Ambassador Olkonnen says though copper prices are improving, it is prudent not to sit on this increased foreign exchange earning ‘laurel’ or ‘comfort zone’ as mineral prices can fluctuate downwards.
