Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) President Andrew Nthewewe says the nation expects government through the Ministry of Finance to promulgate the Statutory Instrument to allow the Auditor General to report cases of misuse of public funds and abuse to the National Prosecutions Authority.

Mr. Nthewewe tells QTV News that while the amended Republican Constitution gives the Auditor General’s Office more powers to pursue cases of misuse, corruption and other forms of abuse of public funds, they cannot do so at the moment.

He says it is for this reason that the Minister of Finance should come up with the SI that will allow the Auditor General’s Office to fully pursue these cases.

Mr. Nthewewe states that as the Minister of Finance seals loopholes in the financial system by taking to parliament various bills, he should also consider giving the Auditor General’s Office more powers to act on most of these cases.
