The opposition National Restoration Party (NAREP) has urged government to make thorough investigations into the misapplications of funds that was highlighted in the recent report by the Auditor General’s report.

Speaking in an interview with Q News, NAREP President Elias Chipimo says stakeholders must not focus on the huge difference between K28 million and K162 million but rather must focus on how they are going to deal with the cases of such misappropriations.

Mr. Chipimo says if the country does not put practical measures, misappropriation of public funds will continue and there will always have the same cases of not highlighting who and how funds are misappropriated.

He says the misapplication of funds has been a trait for more than 20 years and such cases are never investigated by various enforcement institutions.

Mr. Chipimo says this is not a good picture to portray to the international community especially to the International Monetary Fund.

Mr. Chipimo has challenged institutions like the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission on why they have taken any action against such findings.

Speaking in a separate interview with QTV News, NAREP Spokesperson Bwalya Nondo has accused President Edgar Lungu of being too reluctant to fight corruption in the country.

Mr. Nondo says it is worrying that the misappropriation of funds has been increasing in the recent past while government is not doing anything about it.
