Zambia, Botswana commits to strengthen ties

LUNGU.-KHAMAPresident Edgar Lungu and his visiting Botswana Counterpart President Ian Khama have committed to bolster economic ties between their two countries for the mutual benefit of their respective citizens.

President Khama says the two countries have enjoyed good relations.

He says Botswana will continue strengthening ties with Zambia.

President Khama is hopeful that his leadership will continue to strengthen the various development projects the two countries have embarked including the construction of Kazangula Bridge.

President Khama, whose tenure of office is coming to an end in the next five months, says he will not amend the constitution to prolong his tenure of office.

Meanwhile president lungu says Zambia further admires the great strides Botswana has made in tourism, livestock development, as well as in gemstone mining and processing which has laid a firm foundation for their country’s sustainable development.

President Lungu says it is worth noting that the friendship between the two nations will further be strengthened by the completion of the ultra-modern kazungula bridge which both countries have committed to completing very soon.

He says the bridge will not only boost trade and the interaction among the two peoples, but will also open an important trans-continental development corridor for the benefit of the SADC and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, (COMESA).

Earlier President Edgar Lungu and his visiting Botswana counterpart president Ian Khama today led hundreds of patriotic Zambians at the freedom statue in laying wreaths in remembrance of all departed heroes.

Zambia has today turned 53 years.

This year, the theme of the independence is: “celebrating our freedom for continued peace, unity, patriotism, and development”.
