High illiteracy levels in education sector worries Dr. Wanchinga

DR. DENNIS WANCHINGAGovernment says is saddened by high illiterate levels by learners in the education sector.

General Education Minister Denis Wanchinga says high illiteracy levels have been mainly due to lack of support from homes learners come from.

He says it is devastating to note that people manage to find places in higher institutions of learning with high illiteracy levels

He adds that parents have a huge role to play in the lives of learners who spend most of their time at school.

He appeals to   parents in the country to utilize their time, helping learners go through literacy materials.

Speaking during the national reflection workshop on improving early grade reading, organized by the ministry of general education and creative associates International, Dr. Wanchinga notes the need for proper learning infrastructure, if literacy and numeracy levels are to be boosted in the country.

The minister has further called for enhanced support and motivation towards workers in the education sector.
