Govt launches gender strategy

VINCENT-MWALE-Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has directed all local authorities in the country to aim at achieving gender equality in human resource development in order to enhance participation of women in decision making positions.

Mr Mwale said this when he launched the gender strategy and implementation plan for 2018 and 2021 which is aimed at providing guidance and framework on how gender mainstreaming will be conceptualized, financed and delivered in the country.

He says he wants to see all local authorities facilitate capacity building in gender mainstreaming in local government systems to ensure both females and men are embraced in service delivery systems.

Mr. Mwale states that the involvement of local authorities in promoting gender equality will accelerate national efforts to achieve gender equality by the year 2030 in line with the 7th national development plan that targets the elimination of gender inequalities.

Speaking earlier, Germany Technical Cooperation GIZ representative Gerald Schmitt said the implementation of the gender strategy and implementation plan will help achieve one of the goals in the 7th national development plan of leaving no one behind be it male or female.

Mr. Schmitt has since pledged GIZ’s commitment to ensuring that Zambia achieves gender equality by 2030.
