The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has advised government to ensure prudent utilization of resources if it is to achieve its target of reducing poverty by 20% at the end of the 7th National Development Plan.

Poverty levels in the country current stand 54.4%.

CSPR Programs Manager Juliet Ilunga tells Q-News that government should also clearly explain to the nation how it intends to alleviate the high poverty.

She says government should ensure there is prudent utilization of resources in the social sectors such as health and education.

Ms. Ilunga has further stated that government should ensure there is sufficient funding for the social cash transfer starting with the 2018 national budget, and ensure that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.

She has since commended President Edgar Lungu for acknowledging the high poverty levels in the country.

Ms. Ilunga says the Country’s poverty situation is disheartening.
