Over 5,000 residents of old regiment settlement in twashuka ward, bwana Mkubwa constituency in Ndola have been evicted from their settlement.

This follows after inter Africa petroleum, a Lusaka-based law firm wrote an eviction notice to have over 5,000 residents evicted from their settlement.

The letter however does not state where these thousands of families will be taken to.

And bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Dr. Jonas Chanda says this settlement has been in existence since 1964 and that people have built houses, and families have grown from there.

Dr. Chanda says the sale of a settlement already inhabited by so many poor and suffering Zambian citizens is mired in secrecy and corruption.

He says his predecessor immediate past mp for bwana Mkubwa constituency Emmanuel Chenda who also served as minister of local government and housing, had handled the old regiment issue and assured the residents that they would not be displaced from their settlement.

He has told QTV news that residents of old regiment have vowed not to move from the only home they have ever known – they have vowed to rather die there.

He has since appealed president Edgar Lungu, and the PF government to protect the thousands of poor families at old regiment settlement from predatory and parasitic investors.

He said this when he addressed the affected residents in Ndola.
