The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) has cautioned stakeholders to be extra careful when engaging pupils on matters related to HIV and AIDS.

PROTUZ General Secretary Kangwa Musenga says there have been isolated cases of pupils going into depression after finding out that they are HIV positive.

Mr. Musenga has told QTV News that the nation needs to do a lot of sensitization in preparing the pupils psychologically so that they can come to terms when they are found to be HIV positive to avoid them going into depression.

He notes that pupils born with the virus can come to terms with the situation unlike those who contract the virus through sexual activities and other means, thus the need to prepare the pupils well.

Mr Musenga says with the routine HIV counseling and testing announced by the government, it is important that the government and other stakeholders go out in full swing to sensitize pupils on this matter.
