DEC nab two South African women for drug trafficking

The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka Province has arrested two (02) South African business women for trafficking in cocaine.

Commission public relations officer Theresa Katongo says Nompumezo Makunga, 36, a South African business woman of Mtantsane, East London has been arrested for trafficking in 2.9kg of cocaine. Theresa DEC

She says also arrested is Clarah Sibongile Parker Swatson, 49, a South African business woman of 5980 Muller Street, Naturena Johannesburg for trafficking in 1.4kg of cocaine.

Ms Katongo says the cocaine was concealed in fake compartments that both suspects had created in their suitcases.

She states that the first suspect was picked from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport while the second was apprehended from a named lodge in Chawama Township.

Meanwhile, the Commission in Eastern Province has arrested four (04) male persons for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing over 5 tonnes.

Those arrested and jointly charged include Paul Zulu, 52, a Bricklayer of Mwachande village in Mambwe District, Joseph Banda, 27, a small scale farmer of Musukwala village in Mambwe District, Paul Daka, 19, also a small scale farmer and Mike Phiri, 36, a businessman for unlawful cultivation of 5.6 tonnes of cannabis.
