The United Party for National Development (UPND) says there is no proper justification for the K60 maize price announced by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma has since advised government to adjust upward the price considering the high cost of agro inputs farmers incurred.

Mr. Kakoma says government should understand that the 2016/2017 farming season came with numerous challenges, and that it is therefore prudent that the farmers are not overburdened with the unreasonable price.

He has also accused government of scheming to reduce the cost of mealie meal and in turn punishing the farmers.

Mr Kakoma says this is a wrong approach to reducing mealie meal prices, stating that the correct approach is to first lower the cost of production.

Mr. Kakoma has also advised government to reduce the cost of fertilizer, seed, fuel, electricity and other farming input prices possible for good maize crop yields.
