Govt signs $40 million Luapula water deal

Government has signed a 40 million united states dollars on-lending and grant agreement with the Luapula Water and Sewerage Company for water and sanitation programs in Kawambwa, Mansa, Mwense, and Samfya districts.

According to a statement issued by ministry of finance public relations officer Chileshe Kandeta,the agreement was signed by Finance Minister Felix Mutati on behalf of the Central Government, and Luapula Water & Sewerage Company Managing Director Kenneth Chense signed on behalf of Luapula Province during the official opening of the ongoing Luapula EXPO & Investment Conference in Mansa.

Mr. Kandeta further reveals that Of the amount signed, 33.5 Million united states dollars has been on-lent from the Government to the Luapula Water and Sewerage Company, while a further 6.7 million dollars has been given as a grant.

He states that the signing of the on-lending and grant agreements signifies the fulfillment of the promise made by the Government to tackle water and sanitation challenges in Luapula Province, specifically in four districts.

He says The principal loan was obtained by the Government from the African Development Bank under the Integrated Small Towns Water and Sanitation Program.
