Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo has encouraged farmers in the province to consider exporting their maize to neighboring countries for them to be able to realise profit from their produce.
Mr. Kasolo says it is devastating to note that farmers in the province are selling their produce to briefcase buyers at between 40 and 50 Kwacha per 50kilogram bag of Maize.
He says it is for this reason that government has lifted the export ban so that farmers can also benefit from their labour.
Mr. Kasolo states that the province has this year recorded high yields not only of the maize, but other cash crops such as Soya Beans and Cotton.
