The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has advised government to stop intimidating the Law Association of Zambia-LAZ for giving its opinion on the declaration of the threatened State of Emergency.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says government should not be hostile towards LAZ as the association is merely engaging it on the regulations it intends to enforce under the Preservation of the Public Security Act.

Mr. Kakoma states that the major interest of the Law Association of Zambia is to ensure that the laws of the country are adhered to and fairly enforced.

He says government should therefore heed to the Association’s advice.

Mr. Kakoma states that disregarding the Association’s timely advice would be a violation of the republican constitution.
