Barca tops global football digital benchmark

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United in that order have emerged top of the latest global football digital benchmark released by leading global digital research company, Result Sports from Germany.

The reports highlights the top 148 Clubs in the world of digital and social media and takes into consideration six of the top social media platforms with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+, Periscope and YouTube

Result Sports CEO, Mario Leo told supersport.com “The Global Digital Benchmark is unique in many ways. It allows club and platform comparison. The evolution and digital growth keeps going – from our latest research in January, an additional 31 clubs ‘stepped’ over the million fan community milestone. We observe, clubs in Asia, the Americas and in Africa have identified the digital opportunity and now put much more emphasis on its platforms.”

“The leaders and Top10 of our Global Digital Football Benchmark do focus on engagement, sponsorship integration and video initiatives to attract new fans and followers.”

Barcelona lead the pack with a total digital community of 206, 711, 621, followed by Real Madrid with 204, 968, 920 and Manchester united with 111, 821, 507.

The rest of the top ten includes Chelsea with 76, 852, 804, Arsenal with 63, 373, 961, Bayern Munich with 61, 217, 243, Liverpool on 48, 972, 243, Juventus on 45, 469, 736

Paris St. Germain with 45, 305, 170 and Manchester City on 43, 416, 925 complete the top 10 and reflects most of the revenue based valuations of these Clubs.

Interestingly, there are no African teams in the top 10. However, Egyptian side Al-Ahli feature in the top 20 globally.
