The National Union of Public and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) has hailed parliamentarians for voting unanimously to approve the declaration of a threatened state of public emergency.

NUPPEZ General Secretary Nelson Mwale tells Q News that the move will bring about peace and stability in the country as law enforcement will be done efficiently and effectively.

Mr. Mwale says peace and stability are the engines of economic growth, and that a few individuals should not be allowed to destabilize the peace the country has enjoyed for so many years for political expedience.

And the Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors has also applauded parliament for affirming article 31 of the Zambian constitution invoked by President Lungu last week following a spate of fires that have characterized the country in the recent past.

AMSC President Augustine Mubanga has told Q-News that the move will not only enhance the safety and security of citizens, but will also guarantee the protection of both private and public property.
