Typhoid outbreak under control – Chilufya

CSPR guides on 2018 budget submissions HEALTH Minister Chitalu Chilufya says the outbreak of Typhoid in Lusaka, Mpika and Isoka Districts has been controlled.

Rendering a ministerial statement in parliament today, Dr. Chilufya says there has been no death recorded in Lusaka’s Kalingalinga compound since Typhoid was recorded in April this year with 138 cumulative cases recorded.

He adds that eight out of the 29 cases tested positive.

He says currently, there is no patient admitted, adding that the last patient was discharged on 8th June, 2017.

Dr. Chilufya says sadly, two people in Mpika died of Typhoid.

And the Health Minister has assured the nation that the government is well prepared to prevent the spread of Ebola following the outbreak of the disease in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr. Chilufya says so far no Ebola case has been recorded in Zambia as a result of the outbreak in the DRC.

He says government has intensified surveillance activities throughout the country.

The Minister adds that thermal scanners have also been installed at all International Airports and major border crossings such as Kasumbalesa in Chililabombwe and Mikambo in Mufulira.
