United Progressive People (UPP) president Savior Chishimba has appealed to members of parliament to revoke the statutory instrument proclaimed by President Edgar Lungu that a situation exists which, if allowed to continue may lead to a state of public emergency which will be tabled in the national assembly for approval.
Speaking during a news conference in Lusaka today, Dr. Chishimba contends that the proclamation by the President is only meant to oppress Zambian citizens.
Mr. Chishimba says the intention to declare a state of national emergency is dictatorial which hinges greatly on the people’s freedom.
He adds that the proclamation should be opposed as it will also affect the country’s investment and tourism sector.
Meanwhile Dr. Chishimba has called for quick and immediate help to be rendered to traders who lost their merchandise in the fire that gutted City market.
He says government has ways and means to quickly find money to give to the traders and therefore should not delay any further as the traders’ well being has been affected.
