The Zambia Police Service has banned the use of unregistered motor vehicles countrywide.

The move comes in the wake of President Edgar Lungu’s decision to invoke Article 31 giving police more powers.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo in a statement made available to Q-News says only unregistered motor vehicles in transit with accompanied relevant documents will be allowed to be driven on Zambian roads.

Ms Katongo says police officers have since been directed to impound motor vehicles moving without registration forthwith.

She adds that all motor vehicles within the country bearing foreign number plates and being driven by Zambians without any justifiable reason have also been banned and will be impounded if found.

The Police Spokesperson has since urged members of the public to comply and help the police in safeguarding peace and security in the country.
