The Grain Traders Association of Zambia (GTAZ) has called on government to ban the importation of crude oil used to process edible oils.

Association Executive Director Chambuleni Simwinga has told QTV Business News that in the recent past, the price of soya beans on the market has been very low which is not encouraging the production of soya beans in the country.

Mr. Simwinga explains that the reason why the price of soya beans has gone down is because of the importation of crude oils and refined oils into Zambia.

He says this is no doubt affecting the price of soya beans on the market thereby making it less profitable for the producers, who are the local farmers.

Mr. Simwinga has also called on the government to encourage the production of stock feed from soya beans and not only restrict business to processing edible oils from soya beans.
