The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) says it has inspected one thousand two hundred and nine foreign fuel tankers between January and May this year in a bid to promote road safety.

ZABS head marketing and public relations manager, Hazel Zulu has told QFM this also to ensure that petroleum products being conveyed into the country are transported in conformity to relevant Zambian standards.

Mrs. Zulu says of the one thousand two hundred and nine tankers inspected, in the period under review, only 34 failed to meet the said standards representing 97% of the compliance levels.

She adds that the inspections were also to confirm safety in terms of electrical and mechanical systems among other parameters, and also to ensure that all possibilities of sources if ignition coming into contact with flammable liquids are eliminated.
