PeP condemns ‘rallies’ held in name of press briefings

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) President Enock Tembo has called on political parties to avoid holding political party rallies in the name of press briefings.

Mr. Tembo says press briefings should not be conducted like political rallies saying this is what is causing the police to arrest people attending such gatherings.

Mr. Tembo says this new model of holding press briefings in putting the lives of journalists at risk who cover such events as they police arrest anyone found on such gatherings.

He says the case in point is in Western Province where some UPND officials and journalists were arrested by the police for holding a press briefing in the form of a rally.

Mr. Tembo is specifically advising the UPND to ensure that they follow the laid down procedures in holding public gatherings.
