Lundazi baby burnt to death in a maize field

A two month old baby has been burnt to death in a maize field in Chief Mwanse of Lundazi District in Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Alex Chilufya has confirmed the death of the child.

Mr Chilufya says this happened when the child got caught up in a blaze of fire  ignited with a match stick by a 10 year old elder sibling.

He says Police received a report of Sudden and Unnatural Death from Mbakili Ngulube,22, of Chiniyimba village in  Chief Mwase that on 21 June 2017 at  07 hrs, his baby Rachael Ngulube 2-months old was burnt to death in a maize field by Maureen aged 10 her sibling.

He says that the baby was left in the care of the older sibling as the parents were harvesting maize.

He says that the Victim had 3rd degree burns and that no foul play is suspected.

And in another development, a 49 year old woman of Mutima Village in Chief Lukwesa of Mwense District has allegedly been murdered by her 49 years old husband.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has indentified the deceased as Esnart Mwenya while her husband has been identified as Rodwell Lumbwe of Chawelwa Village, Chief Kanyembo of Nchelenge District.

Ms Katongo says this occurred in Luapula Province on 23rd June, 2017 at about 03:00 hours at Chawelwa village in Chief Kanyembo.

Ms Katongo explains that according to the father of the deceased who reported the matter to police, the deceased was beaten by her husband on unknown date and time but in June this year and was kept in the house until she died yesterday.

She says the body is lying in St Paul’s Mission Hospital awaiting postmortem while the suspect has been arrested and is detained in police custody.

In Muchinga Province, police have arrested a 65 years old man identified as Lavara Muma of Kalamata village, Chief Chikwanda of Mpika District for allegedly defiling his 12 years old niece.

Ms Katongo discloses that this happened on 23rd June, 2017 at around 09:00 hours at Kalamata Village, Chief Chikwanda in Mpika District.

She says the suspect is currently detained in police custody.
