Acting President Inonge Wina has urged public service workers to be professional in the manner they execute their duties.

Ms. Wina says this will boost citizen’s confidence in the public service and government as a whole.

Speaking during the Commemoration of the Africa Public Service Day in Lusaka today, Ms. Wina says in an effort to enhance professionalism in the public service, government is building organizational and functional leadership and management capacity at different levels.

She has reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue to enforce the code of ethics for the public service as a means of inculcating and nurturing a culture of professionalism and ethical conduct in the public service.

Ms. Wina says the code is intended to create a public service that has enduring core values and provide a standard of behavior required of public servants.

The theme for this year’s Africa public service day is “Entrenching a citizen-centered Service delivery culture: partnering with the youth for Africa’s Transformation”.

Speaking at the same event, Zambia Congress of Trade Unions, ZCTU Trustee Liseli Sitali has reiterated the union’s call for efficient state driven public service delivery to accelerate decent work, social protection, poverty alleviation and fighting inequality.

Mr. Sitali has since demanded that government expedites the conditions of service negotiations with the public service Unions.

He notes that all collective bargaining agreements between government and public services unions will be expiring on 30th June,2017, hence the need to conclude the negotiations within the remaining 7 days.

Meanwhile, Acting Secretary to the Cabinet Peter Kasanda says the commemoration is intended to recognize and highlight the innovative achievements and contributions of the public service in facilitating national development.
