CUTS asks Govt to motivate farmers

Consumer Unit Trust Society (CUTS) International has appealed to the government not to de-motivate local farmers by implementing unproductive policies.

CUTS International Zambia National Coordinator Chenai Mukumba has told QTV News that the local farmers need to be motivated by eliminating some of the obstacles that they are facing.

Ms Mukumba points out that the call by the farmers through the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) for the removal of the 10 percent tax on export of maize should be heeded to.

She says Zambian farmers have done a commendable job this year by recording another bumper harvest, therefore they should be allowed to freely trade on the international market for better benefits.

Ms Mukumba adds that there is need to make Zambian maize competitive on the international market by scrapping off certain things that may stand in the way of the farmers.
