Chambeshi returns to Nkana

Beston-chambeshi 1Nkana have re-appointed Beston Chambeshi, who returns for a third stint as head coach at the Wusakile based-outfit.

Chambeshi, 57, led the Zambia men’s Under-20 national football team coach to 2016 Cosafa and 2017 African youth championship titles before taking them to the quarterfinals of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup which ended in Korea Republic this month.

His former club, Lumwana Radiants, confirmed that Chambeshi did not renew his contract with them after it had run out.

He will be assisted by immediate former Green Eagles coach Manfred Chabinga. Both coaches were presented to the players before their afternoon training session at the Nkana Stadium on Wednesday, June 14.

Chambeshi and Chabinga will replace Zeddy Saileli and Gift Kampamba respectively who have been relieved of their duties after eleven matches in charge. Also relieved of his duties was Technical Director, Aggrey Chiyangi.

Chambeshi returns as head coach having held the same position in 2004, and between July 2014 and May 2015.

In a media statement Nkana FC President Everisto Kabila said Chambeshi’s re-appointment was aimed at improving the team’s performance and repositioning the club to finish in a respectable position at the end of the 2017 season.

“Both Chambeshi and Chabinga have signed respective one–year contracts with the club. I have no doubt that the two will be equal to the task as they both have vast experience in the coaching job.

“I therefore, on behalf of the Executive Committee, wish to take this opportunity to thank Aggrey, Zeddy and Gift for their contributions during their stay at club and, at the same time, congratulate both Chambeshi and Chabinga on their new roles and to welcome them to the Nkana family.”

Chambeshi’s first task will be to guide his side to a win over city rivals Power Dynamos in the first Kitwe derby in the current campaign.
