Former Lusaka Mayor and local government association of Zambia President Daniel Chisenga has called on lands minister Jean Kapata to extend the land audit to other councils around the country.
Mr. Chisenga’s call follows Ms. Kapata’s decision to suspend the land agencies for Ndola city council and Kabwe municipal council for alleged land irregularities.
Mr. Chisenga has also stressed the need for massive sensitization on the layout guidelines to local authorities around the country on the land alienation process so as to build the capacity of councilors in understanding their roles.
He has since emphasized the need for mayors, council chairpersons, and town managers not to be subjected to undue pressure by councilors so as to skip key procedure of land alienation as this will save their councils from eminent suspension of their land agency and subsequent dissolution of councils.
