Calls for donors to cut aid irresponsible – FDD

The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has described as irresponsible calls by some opposition political party leaders for the donor community to withdraw funding to Zambia following the incarceration of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says MMD faction leader Nevers Mumba, People’s party president Mike Mulongoti and ADD president Charles Milupi are being outrageous to suggest that donors should withdraw funding over Mr. Hichilema’s incarceration.

He says donor aid is meant to benefit the poor people in society; hence withdrawing such support would mean subjecting millions of Zambians to suffering.

Mr Mwanza says it would be irresponsible to allow millions of innocent souls to suffer because of the incarceration of Mr Hichilema.

He states that the UPND leader’s case is in the hands of the courts, advising all political leaders to be responsible, cautious and considerate in their statements.

And the National Union of Public and Private Educators of Zambia has appealed to the international community to ignore calls by those calling on them to withdraw funding to Zambia.

NUPEZ General Secretary Nelson Mwale says such calls are uncalled for and should be not entertained by all well meaning Zambians.

Mr Mwale has told QTV News in a walk-in  interview that it is worrying to note that some sections of society have teamed up to discourage the international Community from providing support to Zambia.

He says any withdrawal of donor aid would greatly affect the economy and the development of the country.
