Governance Activist Isaac Mwanza says there is nothing sinister about UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema and five others charged with treason being moved to Mukobeko Maximum Prison.
Mr. Mwanza says what should worry the nation is the fact that some reports are suggesting that the UPND Leader has been put in isolation at Mukobeko Maximum Prison.
Mr. Mwanza has explained to QTV News that Mukobeko Maximum Prison is not only for convicted criminals but that it is a gazetted prison and detention facility.
He furthermore explains that Kabwe Maximum Prison is not only for those who are detained or convicted of capital offences because murder is also a capital offence.
He says the State, in his view, is not restricted on where it can keep remandees provided the detention center is a gazetted facility and the State bring the accused before Court at the time the accused is to appear before Court.
Mr. Mwanza states that the State can even gazette a house, such as Mr. Hichilema’s own house, as a detention center and keep the detainee at such a facility.
He says there is nothing strange in his view for the State to keep the UPND Leader and co-accused in Kabwe at a gazetted facility based on the reasons above.
