The ruling Patriotic Front says Zambia has not lost its democratic credentials following the incarceration of the opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya has told Q NEWS that the country has continued thriving on democracy, and multipartism, adding that it cannot be derailed by the incarceration of one politician.

And Mr. Bwalya has dismissed assertions by the opposition that Mr. Hichilema’s incarceration has dented the country’s image.

Last week, the UPND accused the patriotic front government of denting the country’s image by the incarceration of its leader, for what they termed as trumped-up charges.

But Mr. Bwalya says the world is not looking at President Edgar Lungu as dictator, but commending him for upholding democracy.

He has since dismissed claims by the opposition that the PF has dictatorial tendencies.
