Police Officer dies on spot in Mongu – Lusaka road accident

A Lusaka based Police officer died on the spot while six other people including the driver sustained injuries in an accident which happened yesterday along Mongu- Lusaka road.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has told QTV News in a statement that the accident happened at about 15:45 hours on at Nalwei area.

Ms Katongo says the deceased has been identified as Sergeant Tamption Chibubu aged 41 of Lusaka’s Lumumba Police Post.

Ms Katongo states that the accident happened when a motor vehicle Toyota Prado Land cruiser registration number AJD 2470 driven by Roy Siansobani aged 43 of Lusaka’s Mtendere Compound had a rear left tyre burst which caused the vehicle to overturn.

She says the injured have been identified as Precious Mulenga of Lusaka’s Mtendere Compound, Teddy Kanyenyeke of Kalingalinga, Gorden Siansobanda of Ibex hill, Chilekwa Mukonga of also of Kalingalinga, and Masuzyo Nyondo of Choma and are all admitted to Lewanika General Hospital.

She says the body of the deceased is in Lewanika General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In Northern Province, a cyclist identified Starmbrige Mpundu aged 15 and a driver of a Toyota Hilux Twin Cab registration number FMR 257 MP, identified as Frederick French aged 66, a South African tourist of Johannesburg, died on the spot while a passenger who is his wife identified as Elizabeth Peto French sustained serious injuries in an accident which happened yesterday at Kaniki village in Chief Shibwalya-Kapila in Mporokoso District along Kasama-Mporokoso road.

The Police Spokesperson says the accident happened when a cyclist of Kaniki Village cut in front of a convoy of six motor vehicles for tourists hence was hit by the oncoming motor vehicle.

Ms Katongo says the injured is admitted to Kasama General Hospital while the two bodies of the deceased are in Kasama General Hospital mortuary.

In Lusaka, Police yesterday picked a body of a female aged 35 of Kasupe area in Zingalume which was found lying in Muchinga ground.

Ms Katongo says the body was discovered by members of the public yesterday, at about 07 00 hours who later alerted police.

She says the victim who has been identified by relatives is suspected to have been strangled to death after being raped.

She discloses that the body is in UTH mortuary and investigations have since been instituted.
