University of Zambia lecturers have decided to call off their go slow in national interest.

The lecturers and researchers have been on a go slow since last week Tuesday over nonpayment of contractual obligations for seven years.

The lecturers are being owed entitlements since December 2010 when their contracts ended and when some retired, while some staff members are serving their third contracts before getting their gratuities or contracts.

University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) president Evans Lampi has told Q News that the lecturers have put into consideration the already existing tension in the country and decided not to add on to it.

Dr Lampi says the union members yESTERDAY held a meeting where it was agreed that they give government more time to organize their dues.

He adds that government has assured them that their dues will be considered in the 2018 national budget.

Dr Lampi says lecturers will toDAY start offering their services full time as they wait on government’s assurance.
