Scottish Premiership side Rangers have signed veteran defender Bruno Alves from Serie A club Cagliari on a two-year deal, the Portuguese international becoming new manager Pedro Caixinha’s first signing at the club.

Alves started his career at FC Porto, who also loaned him out to several clubs across Europe, before he joined Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in 2010. He moved to Turkish club Fenerbache in 2013, then signed for Cagliari last season.

“I am very happy to join and I will do my best to win,” the 35-year-old Alves told Rangers’ website. (rangers.co.uk)

“The main reason that I come here, I have this feeling and desire to win and to move here will bring this back to me and my career.”

Alves has won numerous titles at his previous clubs, including four Premeira Liga titles with Porto. He also has 89 caps for Portugal and was named in the European champions’ squad competing at the upcoming Confederations Cup in Russia.
