UPND lawyers leave it to Simuusamba

Lawyers representing incarcerated UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema will not go ahead to seek judicial review on the Certificate of Committal of the offence of treason he stands charged.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma says it was not his party’s intention in the first place to take the judicial review route.

Mr. Kakoma says this is why his party’s lawyers have left it to Magistrate David Simuusamba, who proposed the holding of the judicial review in his ruling last Friday to determine the way forward.

He says this is after realizing that the said judicial review will only serve to correct the wrong doing of the Judiciary for accepting deficient certificates of committing cases to the High Court.

In an interview with QTV News by telephone Mr. Kakoma states that the UPND holds the view that it is the Judiciary itself that should correct its own wrong doing.

Mr. Kakoma says his party does not think it should be the accused that take up a matter which the Judiciary itself must resolve.
