Lungu’s statement is toxic – Chimfwembe

Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director Mweenge Chimfwembe has described as toxic President Edgar Lungu’s statement that donors can take their aid if they want.

Mr. Chimfwembe has advised President Lungu to learn to engage donors whenever he is aggrieved by their statements than rushing to issue statements that have the potential to tarnish the country’s name.

He says in its current state Zambia’s economy needs donors in order to get back on track.

Mr. Chimfwembe has since appealed to President Lungu to seek dialogue with donors.

He adds that there is need for President Lungu to avoid sending a wrong message to the donor community.

Mr Chimfwembe further states that there is need to create an enabling environment for foreign investment in the country.

Recently, President Edgar Lungu was quoted in the media as saying that donors should not dictate to Zambia who to arrest and told them to take away their aid if they want.
