CCZ counsels govt on review of Land Act

Government has been advised to ensure the revision of the Land Policy and Act does not create uncertainty in the investor community.

Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) General Secretary Suzanne Matale says the church mother however welcomes President Edgar Lungu’s directive that the Land Policy and Act be reviewed.

Matale SuzanneReverend Matale says the CCZ has noted that both the Land Policy and Act have weaknesses.

She says this is evidenced by how some investors have acquired huge portions of land from traditional leaders.

Reverend Matale tells QTV News that President Lungu’s concern is therefore valid that failure to control the allocation of land in the country may leave future generations with no land to settle on.

She says while it is important to ensure an enabling environment for investors, the indiscriminate apportioning of customary land must come to an end.

Reverend Matale says it is therefore hoped that action will be taken following President Lungu’s directive.
