Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Hidenobu Sobashima

Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Hidenobu Sobashima says the Japanese Government remains committed to helping Zambia in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis (TB).

Mr Sobashima said this in Chongwe District during the commemoration of World TB Day after the Japan Anti TB Association Zambia donated an x-ray machine to Ngwerere Rural health Center for TB diagnosis.

He says Japan has increased the global fund to fight AIDS, Malaria and TB to about US$350 million, and through its activities as many as 17 million people worldwide have been saved.

Speaking at the same event, Center for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) Clinical Care Specialist, Dr. Natalie Vlahakis says the center is contributing to reducing the burden of TB in Zambia through providing technical support and supervision in ‘scaling up TB prevention, screening, diagnosis and care’ programme.

Dr. Vlahakis says CIDRZ is engaging in TB/HIV service provision and linkages with over 352 health care workers and 182 peers having been trained in TB/HIV service provision.
